Why I Started a Blog Alongside Home Educating

I get asked this a lot. And the honest answer is, it was never really about me.

It Started With Your Questions

When I started sharing our home ed journey on social media, the messages started coming in. Parents reaching out asking things like:

"How do I deregister my child from school?"
"I'd love to home educate but I don't know where to start."
"I'm home educating but I don't feel like my child is learning anything."
"I don't think I'm intelligent enough to home educate."
"I wish I could do what you do."
"How did you make that report folder?"
"Your social media has helped me so much, I've been so lost with what to do."

And I realised, a blog wasn't just a nice idea. It was a must. A place where parents could come and find the answers, read real experiences, feel less alone. That was my only reason for starting my social media pages in the first place, to help. To share ideas, give tips, show what our days actually look like so other families could feel inspired rather than overwhelmed.

How the Social Media Started

I started TikTok in August 2025. Instagram around the same time, though I barely posted on there at first. But this year I've been posting on Instagram regularly and it's grown into something I really love.

The idea was always simple, share what we do. Film little clips of our day, upload an idea we tried, show what worked. Because home ed and having a social media presence actually go hand in hand for us. I teach the children, I film little bits of their day, I share it. It doesn't get in the way, it fits around everything naturally.

And Then Came the Online Shop

People kept asking about the work I'd been creating for my children. The folders, the workbooks, the resources. And they kept saying, you should sell these.

I ignored it for a while. Then my partner said it. Then my children said it. And I sat back and thought, could I actually manage this? I get so overwhelmed with things. Would I cave and throw the towel in?

But I started. I created them, put them together, shared them. And people started downloading them. I couldn't believe it. Something I had made with my own hands was being bought on my own website and being used in other families' home ed journeys. It's an incredible feeling, one I genuinely can't put into words.

And because of my mental health and my physical health, I struggle to work in a traditional sense. But this, the PDF downloads, the blog, the social media it's not hard in the same way. Once a PDF is created, the website does the rest. Automatically. I don't have to rush around. I don't have to post out orders. I know myself well enough to know that posting physical items would be too much for me mentally and physically right now, and I'm at peace with that.

Where I Am Now vs Where I Was

If you had asked me in early 2025 whether I'd have a social media following, a website, a blog, new home ed family friends I've made online and people downloading resources I've created, I would have said absolutely not.

But here I am. And it's thanks to my children, my partner, and the home ed community online who believed in me before I believed in myself. So thank you. Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

A Note on the Hard Days

Some days are really bad. I go quiet online. I get overwhelmed, even something as small as a negative video about home ed can knock me sideways and affect me more than it probably should. So I step back. I take a break. I protect my mental health because I have to.

So if you ever notice I've gone quiet for a while, no posts, no videos, that's why. I'm taking a breath. Sometimes I don't even scroll. I just post a video, swipe up on the app and put my phone down. And that's OK. That's me looking after myself so I can keep showing up for my children and for the home ed community.

Because that's what this has always been about. This community. You.
